Scientific Advisory Council (SAC) Summer 2026

This interprofessional activity brings together members of the healthcare team, representatives from the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Committee, to address a critical professional practice gap: the need for improved familiarity with, and application of, current scientific literature related to public health emergencies.

Through expert-led sessions, this activity aims to equip participants with tools to identify, interpret, and apply the latest scientific research across disciplines. Attendees will also develop strategies to enhance interprofessional communication and cooperation, enabling unified and evidence-based updates to emergency response guidelines.

1. Evaluate current and emerging scientific literature to identify evidence-based best practices for incorporation into American Red Cross educational materials, publications, and guideline recommendations.
2. Outline proposed updates to guidelines using standardized evidence-to-recommendation methods and clear communication.
3. Collaborate interprofessionally to develop evidence-based recommendations by applying shared-decision making processes to produce consistent, standardized guidance for public health emergency preparedness and response.

In support of improving patient care, American Red Cross is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

American Red Cross is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE).

Physician Credit Designation

American Red Cross designates this Other activity (live with prerequisite review work) for a maximum of 23.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurse Contact Hours Designation

American Red Cross designates this continuing education activity for 23.75 contact hours.

Physician Associate Credit Designation

American Red Cross has been authorized by the American Association of Physician Associates AAPA to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This other/blended activity is designated for 23.75 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extend of their participation.

Pre-Hospital Continuing Education Designation

This CE activity is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) for 23.75 Educator CEH.
