Overview
The Wilderness and Remote First Aid course provides individuals a foundation of first aid principles and skills to be able to respond to emergencies and give care in areas that do not have immediate emergency medical services (EMS) response.

Objectives
The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Wilderness and Remote First Aid course is to provide individuals a foundation of first aid principles and skills to be able to respond to emergencies and give care in areas that do not have immediate emergency medical services (EMS) response, such as wilderness and remote environments, including urban disasters, such as earthquakes and hurricanes.. At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Detail the foundations of Wilderness and Remote First Aid, including the differences from standard first aid and first aid kits
  2. Demonstrate primary and secondary assessment techniques.
  3. Identify calling for help and evacuation considerations.
  4. Provide appropriate first aid to patients with cardiovascular emergencies; head, neck and spine emergencies; wounds; bone and joint injuries; burns; abdominal illnesses; heat and cold-related injuries; lightning strikes; altitude illnesses; drowning; and allergies and anaphylaxis.

Accreditation

This CE activity is accredited for 16.0 Basic CEH by The American Red Cross, an organization accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Prehospital Continuing Education.


Additional Information

I understand that the American Red Cross as a requirement of CAPCE accreditation will submit a record of my course completions to the CAPCE AMS. I further understand that my course completion records may be accessed by or shared with such regulators as state EMS offices, training officers, and NREMT on a password-protected need-to-know basis. In addition, I understand that I may review my record of CAPCE accredited course completions by contacting CAPCE.
